標準解では how complex people are、what another person is really like、how long we have known the person、what begins as a misunderstanding と節に開き、抽象語を重ねず論理を見せます。

「性格」を一語で処理せず how complex people are と程度に開きます
  • what another person is really like

Because people are far more complex than how they look と理由を先に出し、主節を we can never fully know what another person is really like とします。

Because people are far more complex than how they look, we can never fully know what another person is really like.

別解

There is no way to understand everything about another person, because how someone appears does not show what that person is really like.

The personality of humans is more complex than their looks.
People are more complex than how they look.

We can never fully understand our opponent.
We can never fully know what another person is really like.

We cannot know another person perfectly.
We cannot fully know what another person is really like.

人の性格を余す所なく理解するなら fully know what ... is like が明確です。

more complex than how they look見かけをhow節に開けます
not as simple as they appear否定で言い換えられます
complexer than appearancecomplexer とはせず more complex を使います
fully know what another person is really like理解の中身が明確です
understand everything about another person説明的で安全です
know an opponent perfectlyopponent

  • after exchanging only a few words
  • someone we have just met
  • how long we have known that person
  • for many years を現在完了に添えます

「錯覚」を illusion の一語に任せるより、どんな感覚かを feel as if we have known that person for many years と書くほうが確実です。初対面は someone we have just met、交わす言葉の少なさは only a few words で対比させます。

Even so, after exchanging only a few words with someone we have just met, we may feel as if we have known that person for many years.

別解

Still, a very short talk with a person we are meeting for the first time can make us forget how little we know and feel that we are old friends.

Therefore, we may feel close to someone we have just met.
Even so, we may feel close to someone we have just met.

We may talk with a first meet person.
We may talk with someone we have just met.

After exchanging few words, we may feel like old friends.
After exchanging a few words, we may feel like old friends.

We feel as if old friends for many years.
We feel as if we have known the person for many years.

for many years と過去形を組み合わせる

We feel as if we knew the person for many years.
We feel as if we have known the person for many years.

We sometimes mistake the person after a short talk.
We sometimes feel as if we have known the person for years.

someone we have just met会ったばかりだと自然に示せます
a person we are meeting for the first time長いですが意味は明確です
a first meet person英語の名詞句になりません
talk for only a short time平易に説明できます
feel as if we have known the person for years事実でない感覚と継続を示します
feel that we are old friends簡潔な逃げ道です
have the illusion of a decades-long acquaintance硬い名詞が多く、覚える必要はありません

  • what begins as a misunderstanding
  • mark the beginning of で「きっかけ」を表します
  • a long friendship と冠詞を付けます

Such a misunderstanding can sometimes mark the beginning of a long friendship What begins as a misunderstanding can ...

What begins as this kind of misunderstanding can sometimes mark the beginning of a long friendship.

別解

A feeling that is not based on real knowledge of the other person may still grow into a friendship that lasts for many years.

This feeling may be the beginning of long friendship.
This feeling may be the beginning of a long friendship.

This misunderstanding always creates a lifelong friendship.
This misunderstanding can sometimes begin a long friendship.

the beginning of a long friendship平易で原文に忠実です
the first step toward a long friendship変化の入口を示せます

Because how people look does not show how complex they are, we can never fully know what another person is really like. Even so, after exchanging only a few words with someone we have just met, we may feel as if we have known that person for many years and forget how short our talk was. What begins as this kind of misunderstanding can sometimes mark the beginning of a long friendship.

what another person is really like は実際の人柄の中身です。 最後は What begins as ... never、may、can sometimes

No matter how a person looks, we cannot be sure what kind of person he or she really is, because the human mind is very complex. However, when we speak briefly with someone for the first time, we sometimes feel that we already know how the person thinks and what he or she cares about. We may even feel as if we have been friends for decades. This mistaken feeling can become the first step toward a friendship that lasts a long time.

こちらは「性格」を the human mind としてから、how the person thinks と what he or she cares about に開きました。 decades が出にくければ for many years で十分です。
