最後の「一端がうかがわれる」は一語で飾らず、we can get some idea of what sailors believed と開くのが核心です。

見た対象を how unfamiliar stars formed ...
  • be named after で由来を表します。
  • 「由来」は how the names came about、「何を信じたか」は what sailors believed と節で表します。

見た対象を how unfamiliar stars formed ...

I saw how unfamiliar stars formed ...

When I was traveling in the Southern Hemisphere, I saw how unfamiliar stars formed strange shapes in the night sky.

別解

When I was traveling in the Southern Hemisphere, I saw how unfamiliar stars formed strange shapes in the night sky.

I traveled in Southern Hemisphere.
I traveled in the Southern Hemisphere.

The stars drew strange shapes in the sky.
The stars formed strange shapes in the sky.

I saw stars that I could not see.
I saw stars that I had never seen before.

stars that I could not see had never seen before で過去の経験を表します。

I traveled in the Southern Hemisphere.
I traveled in Southern Hemisphere.
The stars formed strange shapes in the sky.
The stars drew strange shapes in the sky.draw
I saw stars that I had never seen before.
I saw stars that I could not see.

be named after で由来を表します。

tools だけでは日用品まで広がるので that sailors needed、animals には that live in warm parts of the world を付けます。

Some of the groups of stars that we call constellations there are named after tools that sailors needed and animals that live in warm parts of the world.

別解

Some constellations have names taken from tools used at sea or animals that live in warm parts of the world.

Some star signs were named after tools.
Some constellations were named after tools.

name from とする

They are named from animals.
They are named after animals.

be named from animals be named after animals

animals that live in a hot place
animals that live in warm parts of the world

Some constellations were needed by sailors and named after tools.
Some constellations were named after tools that sailors needed.

Some constellations were named after tools.
Some star signs were named after tools.star sign
name from とする
They are named after animals.
They are named from animals.
animals that live in warm parts of the worldこの問題で意味を正確に保てるおすすめの形です
animals that live in a hot place特定の一か所ではなく熱帯一般の話です。

「由来」は how the names came about、「何を信じたか」は what sailors believed と節で表します。

I do not know exactly how ...

I do not know exactly how these names came about, but they give us some idea of what sailors hundreds of years ago believed and how they saw the world.

別解

I do not know exactly how these names came about, but they give us some idea of what sailors hundreds of years ago believed and how they saw the world.

I have not known the exact origin.
I do not know the exact origin.

I do not know exactly

We can see one end of their beliefs.
We can get some idea of what they believed.

some idea of what they believed

Sailors have believed this for hundreds of years.
The names give us some idea of what sailors hundreds of years ago believed.

for hundreds of years sailors hundreds of years ago

how the names came about由来を出来事として how 節に開けるのでおすすめです
where the names came from名前がどこから来たかと説明しても自然です
the etymology of the names意味が語源に狭まり、語も難しいので覚える必要はありません
the reason of the names前置詞と意味の範囲が不自然なので使いません
we can get some idea of what they believed分かる量が一部だけだという留保まで表せます
the names show us a little about their beliefs名前を主語にした説明でも正確です
we can see one end of their beliefs物の端を指す直訳になり、意味が通らないので使いません

While traveling south of the equator, I looked up and noticed stars I had never seen before making unusual patterns. Some groups of stars have the names of tools used at sea or animals living in hot countries. I cannot explain exactly where all the names came from, but they help us understand a little about what sailors long ago believed.
